The atmosphere in the big exhibition hall at the Frankfurter Messe is tense, soon the winners of the German Design Award 2018 will be announced. A considerable verdict, as in over 60 years of its existance, the German Design Council has become an eminent instance for design – not only for Germany, but globally. The council is counted among the leading international centres of competence for design, and meets once a year, to award the desired German Design Award. It supports companies developing their brand and concept, and promotes German design as an economic factor: An important measure for the German design culture and a respected platform for sharing knowledge and experience. The number of applications is expectedly impressive: Over 5000 candidates, from all over the world, have been registered this year. From the thousands of admissions in the categories “Excellent Product Design”, “Excellent Communications Design” and “Universal Design”, only a handful of finalists will be awarded with the prestigious honours.
“The German Design Award directly contributes to the overall commercial success. Prizes will only be awarded to projects that truly represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape. The highly esteemed, international jury guarantees this. The German Design Award identifies and presents unique design trends: a competition that advances the design-oriented scene.”

In the spotlight of winners.
During this second weekend in February, the visitors of the exhibition at the Messe Frankfurt were offered a broad variety of design products. Each and every one of the exhibits asking the favour of the jury with great detail and magnificent form. With exhibits from the architectural realm, and whole houses to be considered by the committee, side to side with practical everyday tools, like kitchen ware, or user-friendly software applications: All with the eminent goal of making daily life not just more comfortable but also more aesthetic. Because design makes a difference. Every day.
And also James, the silent servant from Baumondi Interior, is among the finalists in the category “Excellent Product Design – Furniture”. Under the motto “The gentleman and his traditions!”, Baumondi Interior developed an innovative design for an especially exclusive valet stand. The concept reads as follows: “Over hundreds of years, the valet stand has been serving the men of the world with it’s best habits: neatness and prestige. The elegance of the valet stand and it’s combination of luxurious materials transforms any room into something special. Sophisticated walnut wood with black piano lacquer and brushed golden metal, topped by a real size head as the design-centrepiece. The only valet of its kind. Contemporary design for the contemporary man: James Classic, the gentleman’s assistant, by Baumondi Interior!” CEO Beata Baumgartner rejoices, that the long and intensive development for the prestigious design has been worth the while: The German Design Award 2018 is not only an award for design, but emphasises the profile and the direction of Baumondi Interior. James, silent servant and design object of the hour – now in the spotlight, that he deserves.
Character, with style.
The noble materials, the delicate details, the characteristic head of James, the valet stand, pay off. Baumondi Interior empowers the finest workmanship and minutiae, sustainable design and the fine arts. The official statement of the jury emphasises the decision of the committee:
“The JAMES Classic model is a reinterpretation of the traditional valet stand. The piece makes use of high-quality materials and clean forms to produce an elegant appearance. The stylised head acts as an additional attention-grabber.”
